On Friday 28th June, Wellington Primary Academy hosted a fun-filled fundraising day to celebrate Armed Forces Day. Staff and pupils came to school in army-themed dress and donated money towards two chosen charities - Alabare and Help for Heroes. There was also a yummy bake off where pupils, parents and staff created over 30 Army themed cakes and cookies, and lots of activities in classes such as bug hunting and making pizza's on a campfire in 'forest school'. After school parents and the local community were invited to the school for a party on the field which included bouncy castles, obstacle courses as well as treat stalls, a raffle and tombola. They also had some army jeeps arrive for the children to explore and try on real army uniforms (some the children had already arrived in adapted versions of their parents old uniforms!) The total raised is over £800 for the two charities, with over 65% of the pupils in the school being from military families, it was important that the school supported Armed Forces Day and it turned out to be a fantastic day!
